Last year I had a few firsts in my life, one being I visited a chiropractor for the first time. My mom loves seeing a chiropractor on occasion, but I thought they were a bunch of quacks.
When I hurt my back in high school I went to the real doctor, had an MRI done, went faithfully to physical therapy and continued to do the exercises they recommended. When in college I had two flair ups I went to the doctor, was prescribed some medication and started my back exercises again. All was good and there really was no way I was going to ever see a chiropractor.
Since moving to Lakeland I have gotten to know three chiropractors on a personal basis. (I never had know a chiropractor personally before.) I was immediately amazed by the medical knowledge and training they received. This wasnt convincing to me for probably a year though. Then I went wakeboarding this summer. Not only did I get tore up I also went tubing. Not only did I tube, but then I decided to Wii box for about an hour. (Seriously, I should have know the Wii boxing would really be the problem.) Needless to say I thought the next morning when I woke up I would be cripple for the rest of my life. The problem, I didnt have a doctor I could call for an appointment. I was in so much pain I decided I would try Dr. Chris Terry who practices at Sligh Chiropractic.
I knew Dr. Terry and trusted him. He was well educated, very thorough and I knew would be honest. It was slightly awkward at first, but an exceptional experience. Not only did Dr. Terry help with the bone part, but he also did some soft tissue work. Thankfully, I was feeling better almost immediately although did return for a few follow up appointments. Right before Thanksgiving when things were feeling off I called Dr. Terry and they worked me into the schedulethat day. To be worked in for a last minute appointment was a unique experience compared to my other medical experiences and to be seen on time was also unexpected. (On a personal note I love punctuality in appointments!) The best part was I had no pain over the holidays. I still accredit it in part to Dr. Terry and in part to me thinking ahead of time and practicing preventative medicine instead of reactionary medicine.
This week I am recommending Dr. Terry and Sligh Clinic of Chiropractic for a Lakeland Chiropractor. He is young, so keeps up with all the new research, thorough, honest and Sligh Chiropractic all together has excellent customer service.
Additional Notes:
1. I dont know how to compare costs, but I was a cash patient and thought the pricing was reasonable and affordable.
2. I will warn you that if you are a first time patient they will do a thorough examination so the doctors can get a full picture of your condition.
3. For ladies you can request shorts to go under the typical gown.
4. Sligh Clinic of Chiropractic was recognized as Small Business of the Month from the Lakeland Chamber last year. (July 2008) For history of the Clinic you can read the blurb from The Lakeland Chambers site, just click on the drop down box to July.
